And I do want to reiterate that I have no personal knowledge concerning how Halle conceived this child, and that I am truly happy for her family. She appears to be a wonderful mother and I wish her nothing but the best in the coming months and years. I just hope that people don't assume that because she conceived at age 46 that they can too. I am only choosing her recent announcement and pregnancy as an example of how frequently women are misled regarding important aspects of their fertility. Women can and do conceive the old fashioned way using their own eggs, but not many women are that lucky to get pregnant spontaneously at age 45+. And once again, let me extend my congratulations to Halle Berry and her family on their upcoming addition!

@ Brittany,

What you experienced happens to a lot of women. Try not to beat yourself up over it. It has taken me so long to respond to your post that you may have delivered by now but there are a lot of reasons to consider trying again, and a lot of reasons not to try again. Whatever you decide, please remember that breast feeding isn't just about nutritional needs, it is also about bonding and closeness. You will have a completely different relationship and experience with your second child and you may want to try simply to have that quiet time together. The Milk Memos talks has a lot of women who had similar experiences with supply (and even dehydration) and you aren't the first person to have gone through such a traumatic experience (although that doesn't make it any less awful feeling). Please know that you are not alone. Whatever you decide, ignore society, and do what feels best for your family.

Hello Liz,

I found your blog entry on google. Im a gay man who plans to have a surrogate carry my child, also she will carry my partners. Do these same laws apply to same sex marriages? Under the new equality law in NY State I would think so. If you could clarify, it would be most appreciated.
